I'm a Computer Science student at Brown University.
I'm obsessive. I like things that will keep me occupied for hours, days, months, years.
There are a lot of things I want to do in life, but the amount of tasks at hand is so overwhelming that sometimes, I become paralyzed. I do what I can but the list only gets bigger, never smaller.
It gets discouraging, but it's worth it.

This tumblr is where I collect the things that keep me awake at night.

I’m deciding what classes to shop next semester instead of focusing the ones I’m taking now. SO MUCH FUN. My favorite form of procrastinating is procrastinating while still feeling productive.

Also, I’m a bit nervous for my sanity next year.

Things I’ve done in the past hour:

  • Eat
  • Discuss women in CS
  • Play Tetris Battle
  • Google pictures of cute baby animals. (Mainly this)

Things I have not done in the past hour:

  • Lit essay
  • Study stats
  • Work on CS final.

oops

things I need to do over winter break

It’s almost 2 A.M. There’s an essay I need to write by tomorrow. But my mind is stuck in the future. I like literature, but I don’t think I can take another lit class at Brown again. There’s something about analyzing literature that seems a bit…reductive. I don’t like that. Anyway, I digress:

  • Learn Java
  • Learn C++???
  • Learn Maya
  • Read a lot. Top of to-read list: House of Leaves, Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, House of Spirits, Anathem, Dune, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, The Brief and Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao
  • Do more art. I don’t know why I still bother putting this on lists because it never happens.
  • Think less about the future.
  • Sleep a lot.
  • Don’t spend a shit ton of money
  • Look for internships.
  • Figure out life (or at least next semester).
  • Exercise. (lol. I can dream, right?)

In other news, I’m in the process of filling out my concentration declaration for Art History and CS. :D Which I probably won’t complete until the deadline near the end of next semester, but whatever.

I can’t believe it’s already almost time to preregister for classes. Blah need to figure out my life.

I’m actually leaning pretty heavily towards majoring in Computer Science. I really like the CS class I’m taking this semester, and I feel like I think like a CS person does, if that makes sense. I like coming up with algorithms, finding the most concise/clear/elegant solution, making something that can actually do something in the end. Except sometimes I get lazy. I think I should be less lazy. And I definitely need to be less careless.
I love English, but something that really frustrates me about essays is that they always leaves me feeling dissatisfied.
I’m also considering double majoring in Philosophy. Which is bad because I’ve yet to take a single philosophy class. But hey, it’s only 8 requirements, so it should be feasible to complete the concentration in 2.5 years, right?
I’m also thinking about majoring in CS - Econ as opposed to just CS. I like programming, but I don’t want to spend the rest of my life working in the tech industry (at least I don’t think I do).
I think the problem with choosing a major is that you’re supposed to choose based on what you want to do as a career. But I don’t really want a career, or at least I can’t imagine myself having one at this point.
I can’t picture what my life would be like past college. The most I can conjure up is a boring Bartleby-like existence, which does not appeal to me.
Actually, I can totally picture myself becoming either my mom or my dad. My mom: works with computers on weekdays, does nothing on weekends, kind of blah about life. My dad: stays at home, draws/paints/reads/listens to music, but also pretty blah about life. I should strike a balance somewhere in between, but I don’t know how or if I’m capable.

CSCI0170: Computer Science: An Integrated Introduction
HIAA0010: Introduction to the History of Art and Architecture
ECON1210: Intermediate Macroeconomics
COLT1410: The Fiction of Relationship (Comparative Literature)
ENGN0090: Management of Industrial and Nonprofit Organizations
CSCI0150: Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming and Computer Science

I’m dropping either CSCI0170 or CSCI0150, but other than that, my schedule is set! Super different from the schedule I preregistered with, but I’m very happy with what I have, especially my Comp Lit and Art History class. :D

Classes started yesterday, so FYI, I will only be posting sporadically from now on.

  • Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos
  • To The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf
  • Inferno: From An Occult Diary by August Strindberg

Actually, I’m not 100% set on this class, but I’ll most likely be taking it. SO EXCITED.

summary

  • I’m giving myself a day off. Tomorrow, I’ll start studying for CS, but for now, I’m just exhausted from finals.
  • It’s been so long since I’ve been enraptured by a book or movie. I miss the feeling.
  • I’m seeing Yeasayer in LA in approximately a week!
  • I’ve also bought tickets to see the play Three Days of Rain at the South Coast Repertory. It reminds me so much of Arcadia, so I kind of am obliged to see it.
  • I snagged a job for the summer. Digital Marketing intern at Sony Music. :D
  • As much as I’m excited for summer, I’m actually going to miss Brown a lot. Needless to say, I’m extremely excited for next semester. Especially with the classes I’m possibly taking…which will NOT be 3 CS classes, contrary to what a previous post of mine said. I now realize how delirious I was, and have managed to create a more manageable, albeit still work-intensive, schedule. So far, I have a CS, music, art history, visual arts, and English class. Yay diversity! I’m also considering a statistics course, but I might postpone it a year.
  • Seriously, why is statistics not a required class in high school. So important/practical.

My contemporary architecture final project! ~50-60 hours worth of work, and still, the roof is messed up. Too tired to care.
And the vertices are showing. Oops. Forgot to turn that off. Also, while watching the video, I realized that the bathroom wall is retarded.

I would remake the video except:
(1) it’s due in 10 minutes
(2) it took forever to upload because Google Sketchup kept on crashing.

next year’s schedule!

I wasted too much time doing this today.

This semester is going to be so shitty…but yay 3 day weekend!

I also plan on taking Europe in the High Middle Ages, which should fit into Tues/Thurs 9-10:50. It wasn’t listed on banner though…I hope this doesn’t mean they aren’t offering the class next spring. :/
